Huss take sone for the team. In my quest to keep MVP at the cutting edge of modern horror – I have traveled to feed at the altar of Internet Geekdom on the IMDb Horror Board. Apparently, the IMDb Horror Board is hosting a Horror Board Film Contest for independent filmmakers. The entries are all very interesting. They range from exploitation style brutal horror in This Side of the Nightmare to surrealist horror with Pain With Death and Epic3 and there's even a ghost tale with Laura's Death. Among the Fallen is not an entry into the contest as it is an unfinished work, but the director Jay Skitstar posted this trailer along with some behind the scenes videos on the Horror Board so I thought it fit in nicely as a companion piece for viewing the contest films. This is going to be a series of ramblings, so hold on or else check back later when we can post something less messy. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. If I told you half of my daily adventures aboard the Mutantville Mothership, you would not believe so much as half of that. In fact, you would probably recommend that I seek immediate psychiatric help. Life in the race to complete one's short film before a deadline is both exhausting and exhilarating. I'll have to give you the short version as I am still in the thick of things. The deadline is August 11th. When last we met, I was sitting down to pull Rob's performance into the project file. I use an external 500 GB hard drive to transport projects back and forth. I set up my drive on top of my PC tower so that I can quickly pull the WAV files over. I open Premiere and turn to get a my drink. As I turn, my foot catches the USB cable to my external drive and pulls it forward – dumping the drive hard on the floor. I knew it was a lost cause before I picked it up because I could already hear the drive whirring inside like a lawnmower clogged up with too much wet grass. I rebooted the drive and plugged it back in – and of course it as totally burned. All of the audio from last week's sessions was lost – to me. |
